Dreams is defined in Webster's Dictionary as a "sequence of sensations, images, thoughts, etc., passing through a sleeping person's mind" . Dreams have been a topic of study dating back to 4000 B.C. One may say that dreams have been around as long as the first civilization came to be and are just a normal part of human existence.

In our dreams, we can go anywhere, we can be anybody, and we can do anything. When we dream, we are like passengers on a moving train, unable to control our actions and choose surroundings. We let our mind take over. Sometimes, dreams can be understood in the the context of repressed thoughts. Dreaming serves as an outlet for those thoughts and impulses we repress during the day. When we go to sleep at night and slip into our dream state, we feel liberated and behave and act in a manner that we do not allow ourselves in our waking life.

Visions and ideas can come from your dreams. Authors, screenwriters and poets turn to their dreams for stories. Artists and musicians explore dreams for their inspiration. Dreams can help us find solutions to our daily problems and see things from a different perspective.

Example: What does this dream mean?

I keep having this dream, I'm pushin' Hailie on the swing
She keeps screaming, she don't want me to sing
"You're making Mommy cry, why? Why is Mommy crying?"
Baby, Daddy ain't leaving no more, "Daddy you're lying
"You always say that, you always say this is the last time
"But you ain't leaving no more, Daddy you're mine"
She's piling boxes in front of the door trying to block it
"Daddy please, Daddy don't leave, Daddy - no stop it!"
Goes in her pocket, pulls out a tiny necklace locket
It's got a picture, "this'll keep you safe Daddy, take it withcha'"
I look up, it's just me standing in the mirror
These fu**in' walls must be talking, cuz man I can hear 'em
They're saying "You've got one more chance to do right" - and it's tonight
Now go out there and show that you love 'em before it's too late
And just as I go to walk out of my bedroom door
It's turns to a stage, they're gone, and this spotlight is on
And I'm singing...

Example: What does this dream mean?

I saw my boyfriend, (whom my relatives know nothing about in real life), back home, and he has paid them a visit, and turns out to be he is an old friend. I learn this from my mom who tells me that he is in love with a woman, and is going tomorrow to Jordan to marry her. By the way, I have nothing related to Jordan. Then I saw my boyfriend, but he didn't see me, saw him with a burned nose and burned chin. My mom tells me that he is being treated by a doctor, and he will marry his daughter who has psychiatric issues.

And all this was during a bus drive, when at the beginning the bus was driving without a driver until I asked my mom to take charge. Then we continued walking.
What does this dream mean? What is the meaning of burned nose and chin?

Example: Reoccurring dream meaning?

I've had this dream every night for the past week or so and I am tired of it.So if anyone could tell me what it means or how to stop it it would be greatly appreciated. Almost the entire dream is in third person and I am not in it at all. It often skips around like someone fast forwarding over parts of a movie.

A family has decided to go on vacation and leaves Martha , another woman who lives there, to take care of the house. As they are leaving Martha is programming the code on the lock and a neighbor comes over to try to make a deal with her to get the code but she refuses. The teenage daughter not trusting Martha stays behind. (It skips) Martha and the girl are fighting there is blood but it isn't specifically one or the others'. There is a bang on the door the girl runs over to keep the person out keeping an eye on Martha. Through the glass she can sort of see that it is a young man. Martha says " who are you more afraid of me or my son" in response to the girls constant watching her.
( this next part I always see in first person) The son breaks the glass hurting his hand and stopping for a second to examine his wound at which point I, the teenage girl, shoot Martha. (back to third person). The son continues to push against the door and Martha's head turns toward the struggle and smiles at which point the son breaks through the door knocking the girl down. The three struggle until the family walks in. (skipping again) The entire family is sitting around a table in a red tinted room. Someone asks "aren't you dead" to which someone responds "we all are" noticing deep gashes on everyone's neck and blood on everyones clothing. Noticing a small plastic creature at the end of the table the teenage girl says " I suppose she left you here as a babysitter" and her brother accross from her laughs. The creature opens is eyes and spits blood at both of their feet. Suddenly they are back in their house and I think I have woken up, and the family thinks they woke up from a dream. The teenage girl goes to put on her sweater and someone screams. There is blood all over it like in the red room. the girl runs out of her house and across the street, looking in the window she sees martha and her son, but martha's appearence is different. Martha has a twisted bottle with clear liquid to her forehead and what looks like red tinted goggles ofer her eyes. Her and her son are watching everything that had just happened on their TV as if it were a movie. Sensing the girl Martha turns to her and smiles evilly, attempting to scare her but the girl girl smiles back and slowly lifts Martha's dog into view with a gash on its neck similar to those the family had had.

This is where I wake up. I always have the full dream never stopping in the middle even if that means sleeping to 5 pm which is the case today.

Example: What does this dream mean?

I had a dream I was a girl who went to some psycho doctor for romance and relationship behalf and he asked me why not be a dominatrix? So I did it but the client was fat and ugly. O I told him what to do but he wouldn't cooperate with anything after a while and we somehow ended up in my room on my bed. I kept trying to do my job or get him to leave but he would do neither. Then I looked out the window and it was the most heavenly view of dawn you could imagine: pink and purples sky with a hint of gold and blue over swirling hills and people walking along side walks of swirling hills, while a neighborhood I wasn't ashamed of because of money issues was on the other side. I thought to myself: hmm maybe I should go running on a time like this before school starts. When my client refused to do anything, we just decided he would sleep over. The next morning I realized I was still a teenager and my "parents" in my dream, who don't exist by the way, and look like my aunt and uncle, except my aunt would occasionally turn into a albino women with super red eyes.( I'm Asian). I acted normal around them while my client was still asleep and talked to them on the living room in my Jammie's when suddenly the ugly fat guy came out and in panic I screamed like he was some burglar and ran but realized he was talking to my "dad" calmly and rationally, to which I realized I would have to explain. I told them he was m boyfriend and that he was just sleeping over. Then I looked at him with glares of pure anger in my eyes for coming out of my room like an idiot. Just like his appearance. Then my mom's eyes dilated a lot which freaked me out and dad told me when I scooted away that it was doing that because she was angry. His expression was that of angry amusement, probably cause my sudden "boyfriend" was ugly as hell and I agreed with them and couldn't believe my first boyfriend looked like that along with a crappy personality. Meanwhile he stayed motionless on the head of the couch. I think I told him I never wanted to see him again and to get out, this was for both mine and my parents support. Then he got so angry he started hitting me! I was like wtf, this mother-fucker would hit a ******* girl?!? And IB front of her parents?!?!?! So I to pissed and started to fight him much to my parent's approval. For some reason my parents were like me in my dreams. I ended up beating the utter crap out of him and I left him on the ground for my parents to deal with. Then I went looking for a new guy to impress my parents. This was where it gets weird and I ended up in some weird tunnel where people pass by sometimes in reciprocations and you pick one for either a friend or boyfriend, but they can turn out to be a foe, like the ugly guy I beat up. It was outside of reality. All the other "people" were passing by, but one cute looking boy from a distance who looked perfect for me just stood there with swirling patterns flying over his body like some flower child. I couldn't see his face because of his hair, but I grabbed him before anyone else could. When my parents saw him my dad smiled and my mother jumped for joy saying he was a wonderful guy, much better then the other weirdo I just compensated for. I was curious about his face but I never saw it, at that exact moment my mother woke me up to eat and I told her I wanted to sleep a bit more. She left but I couldn't go back to the dream.  I didn't even sleep, and now I'm wondering what it all means.

Example: Whats this dream mean~?

I have learned that everyones dreams means something and I keep having one that stays the same and is kind of freaking me out.

In the dream, it starts out that im in my bedroom and i cant sleep so I go lay out on the couch (by the front door) and around 2 or so i hear a noise like someone is trying to open the door but i think nothing of it because our old door when wind caught it would make the same sound. then i stop hearing it. so i fall back to sleep, and awake with someone standing right down by me looking at me, ( i cant see all of the face, they have a ski mask on).. i then try to scream and he grabs my mouth, after that he rapes me at gunpoint. when i had the chance i finally scream and my dad and brother come out of there rooms and hold a gun up to the guys head while my mom and sis call the police. when police arrive they tell me he used protection so they dont give me a contraception pill, then 2 weeks later they call me and tell me it turns out that he didnt use protection at all and i could possibly be pregnant..

then i always wake up after that

this dream is really starting to worry me.. please help!

Example: What does this dream mean?

I'm not going to find this is a book, i don't think.
But my boyfriend of 6 months is going through
a divorce. He has a daughter and his still wife
brings his daughter over to our house. We
fight a lot because sometimes I think he's
messing around with her. This is besides the
point but maybe it will help you help me figure
out what my dream meant..

So in my dream I was sitting at the computer
and I looked in the drawer and there was
a lot of porn in there. And I took out one
and I put it in the computer. Turns out
it was a movie that my boyfriend and
his wife made when they were together,
and it was them having sex..
Does anyone know what this might mean?

Example: What's the meaning of violent dreams? I physically act them out in my sleep!?

Last year i went through a phase of having some disturbing dreams. In these dreams I have arguments with people (generally people i love like family members) and then end up fighting them. The part I am concerned about is that I awake from these dreams 'lashing out' punching and hitting the things around me. This can be quite painful at times as I can hit bedside cabinets ect..

Does any-one know of any psychological meanings behind these dreams? Bearing in mind I would class myself as a very 'nice guy' I have high tolerance levels and I have never even been in a fight. I am not on any medication or taking any drugs that may change my mental state.

The Reason why I bring this up now is due to the fact that, after about a year of having 'normal dreams' I have begun 'lashing out' again.
