I'm just curious as to know if there are any books or websites or anything that tells us what our dreams really mean.
OK; BOOKS. If you want to learn about the sexual meaning of dreams you can't do better than read Sigmund Freud: "The Interpretation of Dreams". (Penguin Books). If you want to learn about the non-sexual meaning of dreams Carl Jung is the best. His best lessons in interpreting dreams are in his “The Practice of Psychotherapy”, Bollingen Series XX, Pantheon Books Translated by R.F.C Hull. For this you may have to go to a big library or university library, find the book and photocopy the relevant section.
Freud did not believe that dreams could tell the future. He held the same position as do the sceptics of today. Beware of sceptics. They are PREJUDICED observers or just too left-brained to see the obvious staring in their face. You know, they can't see the forest for trees. Even intellectuals are prone to this failing.
Jung saw many dreams come true. However he believed that we could change a bad dream. I let you struggle with that one yourself since only experience will teach you convincingly.
BEGINNING WITHOUT BOOKS. Now if you want to start straight away with reading your dreams, you need to understand that they speak really the same language as our everyday talk. How so, you will say?! Well there is just one difference: while waking language speaks with words, the dream speaks in pictures, by means of situations; concrete situations.
To see what I mean listen to someone saying: "Today I am on cloud nine!" Do I have to interpret this absurdity for you? NO! You understand at once. But when on the other hand you dream about riding a cloud through the skies, you will wake up saying: "What nonsense is that? Will you please interpret this for me?!" The truth is that the dream and the waking language mean to say exactly the same but by means of different signals! So when you next dream of riding a cloud, or standing on a mountain top, or sitting on the roof of your house, you may look forward to feeling really HIGH!
In short, look at dreams henceforth as allegories, as parables as figures of speech. Now you may wonder where those figures of speech come from? They all come from real life situations and our dreams make thoroughly use of them. Dreams actually speak a UNIVERSAL language with minor local variations; a language that all mammals speak and understand.
Animals do not think in words, unless of course they have learnt a few of them due to their domestication. Wild animals speak a PRIMAL language understood by everyone. We too know that manner of communication. Don’t tell me that you would not know what a tiger means to tell you if he leaps towards you, mouth wide open, or a wild hare, if he runs away from you, or if your cat snuggles up to you or streaks around your legs. If you live with an animal you soon can read them. (Incidentally ‘reading’ is a Germanic word that means guessing!) Your cat can easily show you that she is hungry for instance even without meowing. She will simply position herself in front of the refrigerator and just sit looking at it. The dream speaks like that in most cases.
Dreams may of course use words too, but in the main for most dreamers it’s CAT LANGUAGE! So learn from your pet how to interpret your weird and puzzling dreams. One day you will realise that your cat would be able to interpret your dreams better than yourself because she hasn’t been spoilt by too many words that ultimately only refer back to living situations. Forgetting that our millions of figures of speech really hark back to real life scenarios is what makes us blind to the meaning of our dreams!
THE BOTTOM LINE: words kill our ability to read our dreams. So let’s get back to nature and pretend that we have no words so that our PRIMAL LANGUAGE with which we were born will return gradually!
PS: By the way; a book on ‘Body Language’ would be an absolute treasure to help you refresh your PRIMAL LANGUAGE!
Example: What does this dream mean?
Last night, I had a dream that I was in this hotel. I don't remember who I was there with, it was a guy though. I remember that there were lots of rooms and I went into one, and he was there, on the bed. There was also a snake there. I think it was black. I remember I got really scared, because I am very scared of snakes, and I started to back away and walked out of the room, but the door was still open. As soon as I walked out, there was another snake. I made a sudden movement, because I got even more scared, and the snake from the bed jumped at me. It was coming right at me, but I quickly pulled out a knife and I cut it until it was dead. I guess it just ended from there, because I dont remember anything else.
It seems that most of my dreams are about snakes. I dont have them too often, but the only dreams I really remember from when I was younger have been about snakes. So, I was just wondering what this dream means.
Example: What does this dream mean?
I dreamt that I had cancer in both feet. So I took a butcher knife and chopped them off myself at home. Then my ex husband said the meat in feet tastes delicious. He asked if he could cook my feet for us for dinner.
W.T.F? Anyone have ideas as to what that completely whacked out dream means? It really freaked me out!
Thanks for the help!
i dreamed dat before last night tht i had a breakup with my boyfrd!n he is going away from me!wat is the meaning of this dream.m really scared as i d'nt want to loose him!plz tell me someone.if u can!
Although me and my b/f have some trust issues it really scared me the other night when I woke up cause I was dreaming that my boyfriend was cheating with one of my close friends and it wasn't just I caught them kissing it was like I was actually watching the whole thing. I woke up almost in a panic. He was sleeping over so it really weirded me out. Although I know it was just a dream does this mean I need to tell him the fears that have been on my mind. Should I tell him about my dream? Me and him are going to my friend's Halloween party and I don't want this to be on my mind. What do you think?
ok so i have had 2 really odd dreams:
my uncle (who killed himself) came to me in looking like how he would have after dying*Super scary btw!* and told me that i need to change a lot of things in my life before i end up like him and that who im with isn't going to be my forever and i need to move on, i asked who will i end up with and he pointed at my brother, i asked all discusted and he said obviously not your brother but he knows who you will be happiest with! and that was pretty much the end of it.
my great grandma who was a very big influence in my life passed away 3 days before i had this dream. i was sitting at a table floating on like clouds and everything was white, my gma came up behind me put her hand on my shoulder and said "Sam, im so very proud of you, ur turning into a wonderful woman, a great mother, and ur so beautiful, but there's things you need to change, eventually you will learn" i asked what i needed to change to make myself a better person and she told me my love life will change, that its not my boyfriend, he's a great guy, but something will happen to him if i don't leave him. but if i do leave him i will find true happiness and again told me to ask my brother who i'll be truly happy with.
so i guess im asking what do these dreams mean, and would my brother know who i end up with because he personally knows the person? btw these ppl are on dif sides of the fam and were within like 2 nites
my mom owns a cafe. me my b/f work there. well theres this waitress there and i always think that there could be something going on. my mom, sister, dad and i are there so i thought well if someting happened sombody would have already seen something. i dont know what to think im so jealous of her and keep having these stupid dreams that there messing around on me. we've been together for 6 1/2 years ya i know that doesnt mean anything now a days .
I've been having dreams of my b/f when he was a baby and he runs towards me laughing and giggling? But the weird thing is that my boyfriend is next to me and the baby runs towards both of us, and he looks just as my b/f did as a baby!?!?
Example: What dreams really mean!?
My b/f said he had a dream last night that snow/fire balls were falling from the sky and destroying the earth along with cars on the highway speeding bumper2bumper at 300 miles an hr.He sauid that death was all around and we were running trying to dodge these meteors i guess you can say.Anyone have any idea as to what this dream ment?.I always thought dreams were kinda like fortelling whats to happen in the future or something along those lines
